چکیده

This paper considers applications of automatic speech recognition and speaker veri cation techniques in developing e cient Voice Messaging Systems for Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) based communication systems. The prototype demonstrator presented was developed in the framework of cooperative project which involves two research institutes: the Signal Processing Laboratory (LTS) of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) and the Dalle Molle Institute for Perceptive Arti cial Intelligence, Martigny (IDIAP), and three industrial partners: the Advanced Communication Services (aComm), SunMicrosystems (Switzerland) and the Swiss Telecom PTT [1]. The project is supported by the Commission for Technology and Innovation (CTI). The goal of the project is to make available basic technologies for automatic speech recognition and speaker verication on multi-processor SunSPARC workstation and SwissNet (ISDN) platform to industrial partners. The developed algorithms provide the necessary tools to design and implement workstation oriented voice messaging demonstrators for telephone quality Swiss French. The speech recognition algorithms are based on speaker independent exible vocabulary technology and speaker veri cation is performed by a number of techniques executed in parallel, and combined for optimal decision. The recognition results obtained validate the exible vocabulary approach which o ers the potential to build word models for any application vocabulary from a single set of phonetic sub-word units trained with the Swiss French Polyphone database.

PC - based Workstation for Global PACS Remote Consultation and Diagnosis in Rural Clinics

Most rural clinics across the country have limited facilities to provide state-of-the-art medical services. The availability of enabling technologies, such as telecommunication networks, multimedia workstations, and telemedicine systems which provide medical services to patients without requiring them to travel from their cities represents a great step in patient care. In previous work, we have...

Recognition Techniques for Control of a Voice Messaging System

Word recognition allows flexible control of new services on the telephone network such as voice messaging. We describe an experimental voice messaging system that is controlled by means of speaker-independent recognition of a small vocabulary over the dial-up network. We review the recognition performance attained for native English and French Canadian speakers of English and consider the impac...

Experiences with Asynchronous Communication Models in VEOS, a Distributed Programming Facility for Uniprocessor LANs

Like conventional multiprocessors, workstation clusters can provide data sharing and parallel computing. But unlike multiprocessors, these clusters provide flexible connectivity and can tolerate heterogeneous processing elements. Uniprocessor LANs are a common choice for cost-effective computing. The workstation nodes typically run a version of Unix and support common Unix services such as reli...

An Internet Telephone Software System for Real-Time Voice Communication

This paper describes the design and implementation of an Internet Telephone Software System which allows real-time full duplex voice communication between two parties through the Internet. The system consists of two main components: Telephone Exchange and Telephone Software. The Telephone Exchange manages a list of active users who are connected to the system, establishes the telephone connecti...

An Approach to Real-Time Voice Communications over the Internet

This paper describes the approach taken for the development of an Internet telephone software system which functions like a conventional telephone to support real-time voice communications over the Internet. The system allows voice to be captured and digitised at the source machine. Using Internet as the transmission medium, these voice samples are then transmitted to the destination machine wh...
